The Northern Steamship Company Building is one of the key heritage buildings in the Britomart development and contributes to the historic character of Britomart.
The building has been redeveloped for retail and food and beverage at ground level, with office accommodation on levels one and two. Re-organising the internal circulation of the building has been a major factor in the proposal to return the building to a useful life. At the same time care has been taken to maintain all significant features which indicate the original design and use of the building.
The west facade shown in the larger image had been reconfigured in the formation of the adjacent side street and advantage was taken of that to open the ground floor bar tenancy to the street.
