A long project at the painter Stephen Bambury’s studio provided us an opportunity to thoroughly explore the opportunities that sit in the space between rawness and refinement. The few new elements we slipped within his old warehouse punch above their weight: the delineation of their fragile abstract form within a robust carapace of masonry offered a shimmering tension. That tension proved profoundly profitable. Of five doors and one wall, the studio was made anew.
